Born in Denver, Wid has lived all over the western U.S. as well as New England and Delaware. Educated at Stanford and San Jose State, he spent many years painting realist landscapes in Washington, Arizona, and New Mexico, occasionally making sculpture in clay, glass, fiberglass or wood. He spent several weeks painting Tibetan-style murals inside a Buddhist temple in New Mexico. He was introduced to the possibilities of the PC by several computer-loving friends in Seattle about 1994, and although he still prefers the tactile sensual quality of real paint and brushes, the computer has revealed a new bag of tricks.
